Oil is composed of various hydrocarbons, including CH, CH2, and CH3, which are inherent properties of various petroleum products. These compounds represent the overall oil composition. Due to the use of tetrachloroethylene instead of carbon tetrachloride, some definitions need to be revised: "Oil is defined as the absorption value of a substance that can be dissolved in tetrachloroethylene and whose infrared background absorption value is subtracted from the tetrachloroethylene absorption value at wavenumbers (3030 cm⁻¹, 2930 cm⁻¹, and 2960 cm⁻¹)." These wavenumbers (3030 cm⁻¹, 2930 cm⁻¹, and 2960 cm⁻¹) are the characteristic infrared absorption values of CH, CH2, and CH3, respectively. CH, CH2, and CH3 are inherent characteristics of various petroleum products worldwide. As long as the bond energies (absorbance) of CH, CH2, and CH3 in a sample can be measured, the oil content in the oil product can be determined. Infrared spectrophotometers rely on these properties of oil to detect the absorbance of oil at three wavenumbers (3030 cm⁻¹, 2930 cm⁻¹, and 2960 cm⁻¹) for quantitative analysis.

It can be used for: detecting emissions of mineral oil and animal/vegetable oil in surface water, groundwater, domestic sewage, industrial wastewater, soil, and exhaust fumes and mists;
Suitable for: environmental monitoring stations, hydrological stations, petrochemical, machinery, automotive, and aircraft manufacturing enterprises and institutions; pharmaceutical, agricultural technology, and marine transportation industries.
The composition of petroleum substances is very complex and varies depending on the origin. The main components of petroleum are hydrocarbons (alkanes, cycloalkanes, and aromatics). In infrared absorption spectroscopy, due to variations in the proportions of methylene CH2 groups and methyl CH3 groups to ar-h aromatics from different sources, correction coefficients are calculated: X is the methylene CH2 group coefficient, Y is the methyl CH3 group coefficient, and Z is the ar-h aromatic coefficient. Then, the ratio of the wavenumbers of methylene CH2 at 2930 cm⁻¹ to 3030 cm⁻¹ is calculated as F. After determining the values of F, X, Y, and Z, various petroleum substances can be measured to achieve the goal of being unaffected by variations in petroleum production areas.

Equipment Features
1) This product adopts the calibration coefficient method detection principle specified by national standards. It strictly follows the national standard formula, using 20mg/L hexadecane, 20mg/L isooctane, and 100mg/L benzene for calibration. Finally, the instrument calibration coefficient for the measured sample is calculated using the calibration formula (the standard curve method can also be used for detection);
